Bounty Trail Skills and XP

Bounty Trail advertises a leveling system with new skills unlocked along the way. The store is explicit that alive captures grant more experience than kills. This page is the spend order. The camp HUD prints four player skills, each 0–5: Speed, Perception, Aim, Negotiation. Target cards also list Speed, Stamina, Henchmen, and Notes. We still will not invent tree-node names the UI has not shown. We rank the jobs those skills have to do, because the choice screen already shows a DRAW line with a bonus percent.

Pair this with the hunt tier list and capture alive.

XP is a hunt result, not a side stat

The office header prints Player Level and Experience next to Money. The October 8 screenshot shows level 11 with 159 XP after 9 hunts (6 caught, 1 killed). That split is the lesson: catching is how you afford later math. If you DRAW every poster, you starve the only upgrade currency the game brags about.

Spend XP when you return. Sitting on points because you “might need a better skill later” is how you take a C-tier 3-day clock with last month’s percents.

What we can see skills doing

The choice screen prints:

  • Surrender chance (Information-fed)
  • DRAW chance plus a bonus (the public shot adds +10.00%)

Until September Games publishes a skill tree screenshot, assume upgrades exist to:

  1. Make talk safer (information quality, surrender odds)
  2. Make DRAW safer (the bonus percent, fight durability)
  3. Make the map cheaper (energy, travel, camp value)

Henke’s own design notes mention leveling, clicking, beans, and a horse. Energy is already a HUD percent that can freeze camp at zero. Any skill that stretches Energy is quietly an XP printer because it buys more farmer conversations per Day X / Y. See how to play.

Spend order for month one

First: whatever makes Information or surrender less of a coin flip. Month one is for Caught ticks. The walkthrough wants you leaving the demo window able to talk people down.

Second: Energy / camp efficiency if those nodes exist. Demo bugs around sleep prove camp is load-bearing. A skill that reduces empty-bar disasters is worth more than a flashy duel node you will not need if you keep surrendering.

Third: DRAW bonus. Take it before month two’s tougher posters, not after you already bounced. Combat is where that bonus is spent.

Last: vanity. If a node only changes dust, beans flavor, or a cosmetic, it waits until $10,000 is a plan. The debt tracker outranks a hat.

Builds without fake names

Talker. Prioritize surrender and Information. Take S-tier long clocks from the tier list. This is the default recommended build because Steam itself pays you in XP for mercy.

Duelist. Prioritize DRAW bonus, then Energy so you can survive a failed talk. Only after you can already finish hunts. This build is for hunters who keep seeing surrender sit under DRAW even at 50% Information.

Scout. If travel/energy nodes exist, take them when you are learning a new territory. Mapping Sandy Plains the first time is an Energy sink. A scout spend turns A-tier first visits into S-tier repeats.

Respec is not documented. Play as if points stick. That is why alive XP in week one is a build choice, not a moral lecture.

Reading the ledger as a build log

After each return, look at Caught versus Killed. If Killed is climbing, you are funding the duelist tree whether you meant to or not. Force a talk hunt in a known territory before you buy another DRAW node. If Caught is climbing and DRAW still feels scary, then buy the bonus.

Level 11 at $3,200 is a snapshot, not a target you must hit on October 8. Your target is a tree that matches the posters you intend to take in November.

What this page will add later

When a patch or official manual names skills, they will be listed here with the same rules: no invented ranks, no copied waffle from other wikis. Until then, spend XP like the HUD is telling the truth, because it is.

Siblings: Tier List Hub, Capture Alive, Combat, Getting Started. Skills are how a short RPG pretends four months is long. Pay the teacher.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about bounty hunting, debt, and skills.

How do I level up in Bounty Trail?

Complete bounties. Bringing targets in alive grants more XP than killing them. Spend the XP on skills when you return to the office.

What skills should I take first?

The camp panel lists Speed, Perception, Aim, and Negotiation at 0–5. Push Perception/Negotiation for talk hunts, Aim for DRAW weeks, Speed for mapping tax. Exact upgrade-node names beyond those four labels are not on public stills.

Does the DRAW +10% come from skills?

A store screenshot shows DRAW as a base percent plus a bonus. That bonus is the visible reason to level. Exact node names are not public.

Can I respec?

No official respec has been listed. Play as if points are permanent.

Where is the rest of the tier list?

Hunt types are ranked on the tier list hub.
