Is Bounty Trail Worth Buying?

A short systems RPG, not a Red Dead clone. Demo first if you are unsure.

Bounty Trail Worth Buying Review

Bounty Trail launched on Steam on September 1, 2026 as a short Wild West bounty hunting RPG from September Games (Henrik Hermans / Henke). This page is a buying take, not a fake Metacritic number. Full-game user reviews were still empty on public store snapshots around unlock. The free demo (app 4795170) is the evidence we actually have: Positive, 80% of 40 reviews, shipped 12 June 2026, covering the first in-game month.

If you want mechanics instead of a verdict, skip to Getting Started or how to play. If you already own it, use launch notes. Watch the official announcement trailer in the middle of this page, then decide whether click-to-go, beans, and a $10,000 calendar sound like your week.

What you are actually buying

The store pitch is small on purpose. Fall 1881. Partner Edward Thorne took a $10,000 loan and vanished. You have until year’s end — about four months of game time, with key art that yells FOUR MONTHS — to pay it by chasing 30 bounties across 5 territories. You talk to farmers, stack an Information percent, and choose Convince Bounty To Surrender or DRAW. Alive captures pay more XP. Skills unlock along the way. Multiple endings. Single-player only. Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing. Full controller support on the demo.

Henke told TTLG he wanted less physics and more system-driven play: leveling, clicking on things, eating beans. He took a UFO 50 comparison as praise and named Fallout 1’s map-plus-timer as DNA. That is the honest genre tag. It is not Hunt: Showdown. It is not Red Dead gunplay. It is not a Roblox codes game. If a trailer still looks like a shooter to you, pause it and look at the HUD: Day X / Y, Energy, Gold, Information. Those five numbers are the product.

The demo is the review copy

Forty demo reviews at 80% Positive is a small sample, not a launch curve. What those players actually typed in Steam discussions is more useful than the thumb:

  • The loop is simple and the vibe is strong (one player called it an awesome little game).
  • Energy at zero could brick camp selection until Henke shipped a 15 June 2026 demo build with camp fixes, UI, and audio work.
  • An 18 June 2026 demo build added difficulty tweaks, combat animation polish, and intro fixes.

Those patches are why this wiki tells you to camp before 0% Energy even after launch. A day-one full-game hotfix was not on Steam news or the pinned discussion as of 2 September 2026. If one lands, it will go on updates. Until then, treat the June lessons as live.

The demo is the first month. The full game stretches the same loop across the rest of 1881, 30 names, five lands, and more than one ending. Save migration was not spelled out. Back up %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\September Games\BountyTrail before you overwrite a folder. Path notes sit on system requirements.

Who should buy it

Buy Bounty Trail if you like short, readable systems and a calendar that hates you. You will be happy if you enjoy:

  • Picking a paper off a wall and committing to a 5-day clock
  • Talking more than shooting, then shooting anyway when Information is thin
  • A map that starts in fog on purpose (territories)
  • Named weirdness like Baldheaded Doom and El Gato Terrible without a 40-hour main quest (wanted board)
  • Spending XP on skills that change DRAW and talk odds (skills)
  • Paying a $10,000 debt with the debt tracker open in another tab

You already have a taste if the June demo clicked. The full release is that month, longer, with more posters and endings. Languages on the store table include English, French, German, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese among seven total. This wiki covers the first four.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you want a mechanical shooter, a multiplayer posse, or a huge open world with a waypoint on every hat. Skip it if click-to-go RPGs feel like homework. Skip it if you need a 9/10 press pile on day one: that pile is not here yet, and this page will not invent it. Skip it if you only chase live-service codes. There are none.

Also skip a blind full-price click if the demo bored you in week one. The full game is more of the same loop, not a genre swap. That is a feature for the right hunter and a waste for the wrong one.

Launch caveats (2 September 2026)

  • Some store crawlers still cached “not yet available” / “plans to unlock” around the dated 1 September 2026 release. The wiki treats the game as released.
  • Full-game review counts were still “No user reviews” on those snapshots. Do not cite a fake score.
  • No post-launch patch notes were posted in the public Steam news we could read, beyond the June demo builds.
  • Achievement names are not listed here. Steam says achievements exist; we will not invent titles.
  • Older mirrors said 20 bounties. Steam’s feature list says 30. We follow Steam.

Price is whatever Steam shows in your region. This wiki does not snapshot a number that can change in a sale.

Verdict without a fake sticker

If the trailer in the middle of this page looks like your kind of dust — systems, a calendar, a board of ugly nicknames — buy it, or play the demo for a month of 1881 and then buy it. If you wanted a gun-game, you are in the wrong store tab. Pair the first night with Getting Started, capture alive, and the tier list so you do not DRAW the first paper into the dirt.

Official store, demo, and studio links sit on the links hub. This site is unofficial. September Games did not ask for a review score, and we are not printing one until players do.
