Bounty Trail First-Month Walkthrough
The demo is one month. Spend it on Information, not tourist fog.
Steam’s demo page says the sample takes you through the first month of your bounty hunting career. The full game, released September 1, 2026, keeps that month as the tutorial for a four-month debt. This walkthrough is the first-month plan. It does not invent a 30-bounty order. It teaches the calendar so you can write your own later months with the debt tracker.
If you still need buttons, read how to play. If you still need the board, read Getting Started.
What “first month” means
The story starts in the fall of 1881. An official office screenshot is dated Saturday, October 8, 1881, with $3,200, level 11, 159 XP, 9 hunts, 6 caught, 1 killed. That is a mid-career snapshot, not minute one, but it is the only dated office we can read. Use it as a north star: by early October you want money in the thousands, a double-digit level, and Caught far ahead of Killed.
The demo launched 12 June 2026 and was patched on 15 June (camp/sleep, UI, audio) and 18 June (difficulty, combat animations, intro). If your first month still includes a stuck camp, that is a bug path, not a walkthrough step. See demo notes.
Week structure, not a spoiler script
Bounty Trail is systemic. A rigid “go here, then there” list would lie the moment your poster says Sandy Plains instead of another territory. Use this shape:
Days 1–3 of the career: Stay on one easy-looking poster. Prefer a 5-day clock if the board offers it. Baldheaded Doom’s $600 / 5 days / Sandy Plains card is the kind of job that teaches the HUD without eating a week. Talk to every farmer. Camp early. Do not DRAW unless Information is ugly.
Days 4–10: Return, spend XP, take a second poster in a territory you already scratched. Repeating a map is how Information gets cheap. If a new name appears (Wagon Wheel Joe, Doniphald Suppersby, Harry “Big Head” Bronson, El Gato Terrible), read the day limit before the nickname.
Days 11–20: Mix a cash job and an XP job. Cash is office Money toward $10,000. XP is the skills that keep later DRAW bonuses honest. If Killed is catching Caught, you are failing the month even if the wallet looks fine.
Days 21–30: Stop taking 3-day clocks unless you already know the roads. A Day 3 / 3 rifle screenshot is a warning, not a flex. Bank a clean surrender so month two starts with skills, not scars.
Sandy Plains as a teaching map
Sandy Plains is the one territory name the public poster prints. Treat your first Sandy Plains ride as a mapping class. Fog, farms, compass sightings, Ride/Stop, Inventory, Esc Camp. When El Gato Terrible is “seen to the South West,” obey the sentence. The capture-alive guide is the homework. The combat guide is the detention.
Do not expect this wiki to name the other four territories until they appear in official materials. Five territories is a Steam feature line, not a license to fabricate counties.
Intro, beans, and horse
Henke said you will click things, level up, eat beans, ride a horse, and get revenge. The 18 June demo patch “fixed issues with intro,” so if the opening still feels broken, verify files. The horse is click-to-go on mouse; gamepads got a direct-control option. None of that is optional flavor. A hunter who skips camp to “save time” is the hunter who cannot move when Energy hits 0%.
Revenge on Thorne is a story hook, not month-one content we can spoiler. The endings guide covers the idea of multiple endings without writing fanfiction about the last reel.
Targets for the end of month one
Use these as checks, not cheat codes:
- You can read Day X / Y, Energy, Gold, and Information without thinking
- You have at least one territory’s roads in your head
- Caught is beating Killed
- You spent XP instead of hoarding it
- Office Money is moving, even if $10,000 is still a cliff
- You know where system requirements says the save folder lives, because demo camp bugs were real
If you finished the demo and are moving to the full 30-bounty release, read launch notes and then the tier list before you pick a mean poster on month two.
What this walkthrough will not do
It will not list a fake order of all 30 bounties. It will not name unconfirmed skills. It will not promise a treasure GPS. Steam says you can make money chasing bounties, salvaging loot, or finding treasures; the money guide talks about that mix without planting chests in fictional canyons.
Play the month. Write down which posters burned you. That list is more useful than a copied route. Then come back to Guides when month two tries to collect the loan early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about bounty hunting, debt, and skills.
Does the Bounty Trail demo include the full story?
No. The demo is the first month of the career. The full game runs about four months with 30 bounties and multiple endings.
What date is shown in official screenshots?
One office shot is Saturday, October 8, 1881, with $3,200, level 11, and a 9/6/1 hunt ledger. Treat it as a mid-run example, not a required stat line.
Which bounty should I hunt first?
Pick a poster with a readable day limit and a territory you can learn. Baldheaded Doom in Sandy Plains ($600, 5 days) is a confirmed example of that shape.
Where do I go after month one?
Full release hunters should open the tier list, debt tracker, and endings before taking short-clock jobs.
The intro or camp is broken. Is that part of the walkthrough?
No. Demo patches on 15 and 18 June 2026 targeted camp, intro, and difficulty. See demo notes.
